The Samsung 990 is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD designed for the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. In the 2TB version, it delivers sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s, with random read/write performance reaching up to 850K / 1,200K IOPS. Samsung combines its proprietary V-NAND with an in-house controller; instead of a dedicated DRAM cache, the SSD utilizes the system's Host Memory Buffer (HMB). Management and firmware updates are handled via the Samsung Magician software.
