The Samsung 990 is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD for PCIe 4.0 x4. It reads sequentially at up to 7,150 MB/s and writes at up to 6,450 MB/s, with up to 700K / 1,100K IOPS random read and write. Samsung combines its own V-NAND with an in-house controller; instead of a DRAM cache, the SSD uses the system's Host Memory Buffer (HMB). Management and firmware updates are handled through Samsung Magician.
